| Carbotech Fins
In the late 70's I felt the need to experiment more with fin design. I tried many of the standard fins around, including Dick Brewer and the George Greenough designs and noticed a tremendous difference in one board just by changing styles and sizes of fins.
I started to experiment with fin templates, "fin foiling" and the resulting "flex" of fins. I realised how important "foil & flex" were so I personally made the fins aswell as the board, "sweetening" the whole feel of the board in the process.
During the later part of the 80's I watched with interest, a TV programme advocating the use of Carbon Fibre in helicopter rotar blades. I gained a useful insight into the properties of Carbon, which instilled an interest in me of the material.
Then in 1993 I was introduced to a new method of resin injection and mold making. I invested heavily into this production method to produce carbon surfboard fins. This was the birth of Carbotech fins.
Today I produce 8 longboard "box fit fins" and 2 sets of "glass on fins" all of which are" THE LIGHTEST, MOST PERFORMANCE ENHANCING FINS ON THE PLANET."
Each fin is hand made by one craftsman, trained specifically by me.
The fins utilise no less than 5 different fabric materials in their construction, CARBON 408 being the main visual fabric.
All Blacker longboards include in the purchase price a Carbotech fin.
On thrusters "3 fin" you have the choice of my carbotech glass on fins or the FCS plug system.
